I believe you should know the person behind the business card.
Through ups and downs, I've remained committed to leading, providing, and giving-not just to my family, but also to my community and the clients I serve. Each obstacle has been an opportunity to grow, and it's that unwavering dedication that defines who I am today.
At 19, I had a lot of responsibilities to uphold as a husband to Kisha and I had two daughters, Ashley and Nicole. I needed direction in life and a way to provide for my family. That's when I joined the Navy to give me the structure and leadership skills I needed.
In the Navy, I worked in morale, welfare, and recreation, responsible for keeping up the spirits of thousands of sailors. Whether I was running the gym or organizing activities, I learned that leadership meant serving others. I was learning to lead by example, which became a core part of who I am. I took those lessons with me when I left the Navy after four years and went back to school. At Southern Illinois University, I found myself becoming a leader on the football field in much the same way-by stepping up when my team needed me.
Kisha and I had two boys, Daryl II and Dorian. My drive to be a good father and a provider remained my ultimate motivation. After working in sales and helping real estate agents with home offices, I felt pulled toward real estate myself. In 2001, I became a part-time REALTOR®, learning the ropes by assisting other agents and doing whatever I could to soak up knowledge. Slowly but surely, I built a full-time career for myself.
Then came the market crash of 2008. I specialized in foreclosures and REO properties; however, my primary contract ended, and I lost a huge portion of my business overnight. I lost my business, my home, and the financial stability I had worked so hard to build. I was forced to step away from real estate and take any job I could to support my family. It was one of the hardest times of my life, but through it all, I never lost my sense of purpose. My faith and my family kept me grounded. During this time, I finished my business degree, both for myself and to show my kids that it's never too late to finish what you started.
That same mentality is what brought me back to real estate in 2014. I was passionate about the work and knew I had a lot more to give. Working with the VA helped my return, allowing me to serve fellow veterans. The market crash taught me the importance of diversifying, so I worked hard to build a referral-based business, serving a wide range of needs.
This time around, I had more experience and a deeper understanding of the risks and rewards. I had an entirely new perspective on helping families find homes, knowing firsthand how vital an investment homeownership is. Real estate has never been just about transactions for me; it's about helping people create something they can truly be proud of, just like I did after starting over. Leadership through service has been a constant theme in my life, and in real estate, it's become my strongest asset. I guide my clients to ensure they're well-informed, so they can make the best decisions for themselves and their families.
With 12 grandchildren now, my focus is on building a legacy-not just for my own family, but for every family I work with. I want to show that it's never too late to start and that every step forward is progress.
The ups and downs of my journey have taught me that success isn't measured by what you gain, but by how much you give and how you lift others up. Being a servant leader is at the core of who I am, and that's what motivates me every day-to be a blessing to my family, my clients, and my community, while continuing to build something meaningful.
In real estate, my approach is all about guiding people through one of the biggest decisions of their lives. My specialty has been working with first-time homebuyers, particularly veterans through VA referrals, but I also work with move-up buyers and those entering retirement. Each client's situation is unique, and I take pride in tailoring my approach to their needs. I love the educational aspect, helping people understand the process, and ensuring they're informed to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.
My experience, especially with property evaluations, allows me to spot potential issues early, which is invaluable in guiding my clients toward wise investments. I aim to build trust through honest advice, balancing my knowledge with the understanding that everyone's priorities are different. I know when to offer insights and when to step back, letting clients envision their future in a home that fits their needs. My focus is always on building long-term relationships, not just completing a transaction, and that dedication is what sets me apart in the real estate world.
